Parent Coaching & PCIT

Do you wish that you and your child had a better relationship? Do you feel your child does not listen or follow through with your directions? Do you feel overwhelmed and alone with your parenting responsibilities/struggles?

At my practice, I provide you a safe, nonjudgmental, and nurturing space where you can come to get parenting and family support. I am a child and parenting expert and am trained in the parent management programs of Dr. Russell Barkley and Dr. Alan Kazdin. I can help you gain increased confidence in your parenting abilities, help improve the relationship you have with your child, and encourage and improve interactions among the members of your family. In this way, your family will gain an improved sense of togetherness and enjoyment. Working as a team, we problem solve the various issues you are struggling with.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is one of the most widely researched and effective of the parent management coaching and family support programs. I recommend this program for parents of 2 to 7 year olds who are struggling with issues around cooperation and connection. In PCIT therapy, I work jointly with you and your child to improve your relationship and reduce problematic behaviors and parenting stress.

During the first phase, I will teach you specific skills to learn how to “be in the moment” with your child by becoming a calm, supportive presence during play therapy. During the second phase, I will help you learn skills to improve child cooperation and behavior through the use of consistent discipline strategies.

The unique aspect of PCIT is that I coach you on specific ways of increasing both positive interactions and positive child behaviors as they occur in session through a wireless headphone system and with the use of video cameras. This allows you and your child to be alone in the room and to work on your day to day interactions together. By practicing specific techniques with my guidance, you gain increased confidence in independently managing your child’s behaviors at home and in public settings.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based treatment backed by over 20 years of research. Numerous studies show clinically significant improvement in child disruptive and non-compliant behaviors, in internalizing problems such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues, and a high degree of parent satisfaction. I underwent a yearlong training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy and received my PCIT certification.
